Hello World!

Hi!

This blog is born because it was hard to find reviews of these online shops selling wedding dresses.

My dream dress from Maggie Sottero Hampton that is about $1,400! I found a knock off on inweddingdress.com for $300 (including shipping).

The goal of this blog is to provide knock off wedding dress reviews from every bride that has ordered one.

http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-de022.html

I found this dress on various sites that make designer replicas: !

www.lightinthebox.com

www.bestdressprice.com

www.brandofdress.com

www.dhgate.com

www.inweddingdress.com

The list goes on...

All of these sites sell the replicated Maggie Sottero Hampton for around $150-$300. That's a pretty affordable price. How could it be so cheap? I googled each site and hardly found reviews about them.  I decided to email www.inweddingdress.com and asked them this:

Comment: Hi,

I was wondering if you could send me real photos of the actualy wedding dress that you make for Style DE022? Also, I found a ton of other sites just like yours that sell this dress for less (example lightinthebox.com houseofbrides.com bestdressprice.com)...They are charging around $150.00. Are your dresses higher quality? I would like Style DE022 to be exactly as pictured and the fabric to be the same. Is this possible?. If so, then ordering from you would be good.

looking forward to hearing from you.
Lacy

This is their reply:

Dear Lacy,
Thank you for your interest in our dresses. We use taffeta  to make this dress. Sorry that we did not have a complete photos of all the styles, We will custom the dress exactly look like the picture. To be instead, we sent you DE097  which is in similar design for you reference. The photo is taken from our workshop, the photo quality is not very good, only can be taken for your reference.
All our dresses are custom made with the measurements given, we recommend you to order custom size, which is free of charge and also can help the dress fit well, if only your measurements are correct, the dress will be fitted. You could check our how to measure for directions.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,
Helen

This is the dress they are trying to replicate:

Doesn't look the same huh? well..I'm going to take a leap of faith and order it.

I believe the site says that I should receive this dress within a month or two. I will update this blog with pictures and a detail description of the dress once I receive my gorgeous dress.

Please feel free to send me pictures of your dresses that you actually received from any of these sites. Please send me detailed reviews about the material, the fit, the stitching..etc. I would gladly post everything for you on this blog.

I hope to hear from all of you brides out there!

Thanks for reading.

Until my next posting...(can't wait for my dress to arrive!!)

  1. I am so glad that you are blogging about this. I also have been on a lot of those sites, some I was able to find customer reviews from people who have actually ordered from them but no picture. Can't wait till you update your site about your dress the pictures aren't bad.

  2. I will be following your progress! I wanted to order a dress from inweddingdress.com but was afraid to! I just couldn't find any information about them to feel comfortable enough to order. Most reviews I found were obviously left by them and were just too glowing to trust. That and I was afraid of any customs charges that would a surprise, and the fact that the dress would be nonrefundable if I hated it!

  3. I am about to buy a dress too..... I wish I could wait to see how yours turns out but BEST OF LUCK!

  8. I've been studying inweddingdress.com as well!
Most of the good reviews I've read are in broken english. There are some "proper english" reviews on their website but not sure how real it is??

I've read this one terrible review about them which actually sound genuine!?!?!
Read reply from "D" and the fiance..

  9. Hello ladies,
Ordered my dress in Feb and am hoping to receive it by late March. I will definitely share my experience. Just recently read a pretty awful review ppsted Feb. 24th, so now I am a little more nervous. I'm going to be positive and if its not exactly like the picture...big deal. Its going to work out fantastically. ( right? ) I ordered 2 dresses one for the ceremony and one for the reception. With the price it was very reasonable to do this. My wedding date is april 2nd

  10. Hi, i've seen my dream dress in inweddingdress.com.. i emailed them asking how long it takes to make the dress as i'm not getting married until next year and plan to loose a dress size. They were really prompt and said that if i saved the pic of the dress even if its not on their site anymore in 2011 they will make the dress still. Really worried as there is no reviews good or bad so i'm so happy you've made this blog. Please put up a picture of your dress and share everything! I hope everything goes ok though for every1!!!

  11. I just called dress times and best dress prices and actually did talk to a Chinese woman. She confirmed everything they said on the website and did say they were out of China. The pictures that you posted make me even more nervous because the Maggie dress was so pretty and the pictures posted look way off! I am so interested to see what happens! I will keep my fingers crossed!

  14. I ordered my wedding dress from inweddingdress.com just before this site started receiving posted complaints. The dress I ordered and the dress I received are nothing alike. While I had expected perhaps some small differences in the online dress versus what I ordered I was astounded at the poor quality and craftmanship of the garment I received. Firstly, let me point out that the dress I received is damaged. It is missing a good portion of the beading in numerous places but most noticably on the left strap, on the bust and on the train. In fact, the train itself is not beaded at all but rather decaled with sparkles which apppear to have been scattered on the fabric! Secondly, the lining of the train is not attached properly to the garment so bustling the dress is impossible. Only one piece of the train may be gathered up while the second hangs loosely. Thirdly, the lining on the dress is actually 'longer' than the dress itself and hangs lower than the outside fabric. In addition, the hem is already coming apart. Finally, despite following all instructions to provide you with the appropriate measurements, the dress I received is by far too short and I would be totally embarassed to wear this dress to any occassion whatsoever, let alone my wedding!

When I contacted the inweddingdress.com to explain my displeasure and requested a refund I was provided with a picture of the dress they suggest was taken prior to shipping it to me. They concur the dress was shipped in good condtion and therefore a refund is not possible. The compnay has offered to send some extra sequins as retribution! Even the website advises if the dress is damaged they will refund but that's obviously not the case. THEY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR RETURN POLICY, IN FACT, THEY DO NOT HAVE A RETURN POLICY. The pictures on the website are not an accurate depiction of the gown you will receive, the dresses are cheaply made with no attention to detail whatsoever and there is total disregard for the measurements you provide. Take the time and shop for a gown at a local store where you get personalized service and will be fully satisified with the dress you order.

  16. Hi, I ordered style BC-127 for my destination wedding in October, 2010. I just received it today. I must say Tanya has me absolutely terrified to try this dress on. I have plenty of time to rectify the situation should it not work out, however, my budget is tight and i would be so disappointed! Going to try it on this evening and let you guys know how it worked out.

  17. Just received the dress over the weekend from inweddingdress.com. The package was tiny and the first thing I thought was there is NO way my dress can fit in that thing. I was really hesitant about reading the reviews about the poor packaging but once I opened up the black plastic, I was relieved that the dress had been sealed in a damage-proof bubble brown envelope and then wrapped again in breathable plastic. Nervously I took the dress out and gasped. Not because the dress was disastrous, it was actually the complete opposite. It was beautiful, just like I imagined it to be. The dress I ordered was a replication of Sherri Hill's Style1002(http://images04.olx.com/ui/3/22/21/61892121_1-Sherri-Hill-Prom-Dress-1002-Pink-.jpg). I had it customized so that the main part of the dress would be in light ivory and the satin sash would be in saffron (One of the colors of my wedding). Inweddingdress used real satin for the sash and it turned out beautifully. The encrusted rhinestones on the side, obviously are not the exact same from the photo but it is a great attempt! For almost $200.00 less, I couldn't ask for anything that looked more similiar.
Then the time came to try on the dress, I took a deep breath and put it on. The sizing was near perfect. My measurements were followed to the exact specifications. I didn't try it on with a strapless bra so I am sure that that may be the only reason the top felt a tad bit loose...and I stress "tad". The dress looked and felt like it was made just for me! I am sooo excited about putting it on during the reception, there is no doubt heads will turn.
I ordered a dress just for the ceremony and it has yet to arrive, but "Helen" said that it would be here this week. I think I have figured inweddingdress.com out after accumulating information from different reviews and sites. If you want a simple dress to be replicated..GO FOR IT! It will more than likely turn out FABULOUSLY and save you LOTS of money if you are on a bridal budget. If you want a detailed and intricate dress, I wouldn't turn to the website because it is very difficult to mimic another designer's complex work just from a visual image. Then in the time frame they have (they make each dress from scratch) it seems nearly impossible that they could get it all right in a matter of weeks. The dress that I ordered is very intricate, so I have already set myself up for it. However, the Sherri Hill design looks so great that I told my MOH that I would consider wearing that for my outdoor ceremony. Luckily, I have a back-up plan just in case this other dress turns out to be an abomination. Also, I think that when you try on the original it makes it very very difficult to appreciate the knock-off. In your mind you already know the material you expect to feel, the way the dress should move, the way your hips should be and immediately you begin to identify errors. Do yourself a favor and if you want a "simple" knockoff...get it..and try not to worry to much. If your expectations aren't dangerously high..you won't be disappointed with the outcome. I would LOVE to post pictures of the dress...just can't figure out how!

  18. OKAY, so I get the package home and sit it on the bed. My fiance and I look at it and then at each other. I see the worry on his face that I am about to have a moment. Before I open it I tell him about the BLOG. He says the only why we'll know is to open it . . . so I do . . . At first I'm horrified because I saw none of the cinched detailing in the front and the train layering looked . . . oh my God. He tells me not to panic, just lay the dress out on the bed and look it completely . . . As we were spreading the dress out he notices THE DRESS WAS TURNED INSIDE OUT!!! Apparently, to protect the dress it was turned inside out when packaged. We immediately turned it right side out and it was GORGEOUS . . . it is almost a duplicate of the dress in the picture! After making him leave the room I tried the dress on and the fit is 100% perfect!!!!! I gave custom sizes and they hit the mark dead on ladies!!

    http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-bc127.html

I'm having a destination wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica in October so I wanted something funky and fun. I really love the train . . . it's not to little and not too much!

  22. I am exactly the same, I e-mailed them basically your comment, and mine is a beach wedding dress style that I've not seen any where else! Although I know I still have a year to order I'm trying to check out some reviews now and some have nearly had me in tears! The thing that concerns me is that none of the brides have mentioned how much they had to pay in duties and taxes, which isn't included in the price of the dress! Good luck with it all and if I find any more helpful info will let you know!

  23. I was originally going to order the Maggie Sottero - Brielle
http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3185 from www.thebridalgowns.com and I was scared just like everyone else, by purchasing my WEDDING DRESS online. I was worried and ended up waiting a bit too long, and they ended up deleting 500 of the dresses they advertised, including the dress I fell in love with.
So I searched for another website, and found the inweddingdress.com website and found that dress on there too. But now I have fallen in love a different dress on this website DE320. It's the Caleigha from Maggie Sottero http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3260 I bit the bullet and ordered the dress online May 4, 2010. I ordered a general size and didn't worry about getting a custom size. (to avoid sizing issues). I figured out that the very latest I would get this dress would be June 18, 2011. I have already received the shipping confirmation, that it was shipped May 20, 2010. According to the Tracking information that they email to you, It is already in the country, and I should probably get it by May 28th. I will let you know what happens, and I will provide pictures.
One thing I made sure of was using my credit card that I have purchase protection on, so that if I don't receive the product I ordered, I can get a full refund through them.

  24. I received my dress early. I was extremely pleased with the dress. It was made exactly to order as I stated. I even sent the measurement a bit larger than I really was just in case. I should have trusted them to send the exact measurements.

ONLY one thing. The dress was off white or light Ivory, not white as I ordered. This can be a big deal for some people. For me, I just dealt with it and my fiance will wear ivory too instead of white. You should take your chances but if the dress is very complicated to sew you may want to think about it a little more.

  25. I received my dress on May 25!!! It was shoved in a bag and inside out, but It's beautiful. You can for sure tell that it's a knock-off. But that's fine, I would much rather pay $250.00 for a dress that has a few issues that pay $1100.00 for a dress that I will wear once.
There are a few stitches that need to be tightened. And they are underneath, so I can do that myself. If you need, let me know and I can send you some pictures. Overall, I am happy that I ordered a simple dress and got what I paid for.

How did the dresses fit when put on? I.e. was it flattering and fit much the same way it looks like in the professional pictures on the inwedding.com website (albeit we're not models! LOL...)?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, it would fit alot better if I ordered the right size. I ordered a size smaller, as I plan on being that size when we get married. And mainly it's in my hips area, everywhere else is perfect. It looks great on, except for that little issue with the hips...but I knew that when I ordered it.

  36. Hi everyone,

Glad to hear so many of you have had good experiences with ordering your dresses from these websites. I was wondering, has anyone had any experience of dealing with Dress Times...I've seen the Maggie Sottero dress that I absolutely love (Venecia ... http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?page=2&style=J1363SS) but can't find any reviews of the website anywhere so I'm a bit nervous of ordering from them.

Also, how long should I expect to wait for my dress if I order it from a website like bestdressprice or inweddingdress.com...any ideas???

    Thanks for your help xxx

  38. Hi Ladies, it looks like no one has posted in a while, but this site is making me excited (and very, very nervous) about deciding to buy a dress from In Wedding Dress. I am mainly afraid that I will be eating the money if I don't like it, since their return policy obviously stinks. Does anyone know of a similar site with a better return policy? It seems like the consensus is that these dresses are overall pretty okay, but it's better to get a simple dress and not something with tons of beading and detail. I want a casual dress and fell in love with so many from their beach section. Thanks so much for this blog, I hope there are still lots of you out there who want to talk about this stuff. My wedding is not until next May, 2011, so I have plenty more time to obsess and would love some company :)

  40. Hello,

I am also thinking of ordering a dress (or maybe even 2) from this site, a dress for the actual wedding ceremony and one for the dinner and dance afterwards. I am having a beach wedding in Costa Rica and I really like the dress BC058. I think I am going to go for it and ask them to shorten the train just a bit. It is so scary ordering a dress that you haven't tried on, but I think I will just hope for the best and do it! Eeeeek!

I have fallen in love with stye DE320, http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-de320.html but when I try to find a retailer for this dress a different dress comes up! I really don't want to order the dress of my dreams and they send the wrong one!!!! (especially since they don't have a return policy).

  46. What a wonderful website! I'm getting married next September and, as many have said above, I don't want to pay sooo much for a dress I'll wear once. The wedding dress I really want (Casablanca 2007) isn't at Inweddingdress.com but I've seen it at other websites such as Dress Times. I'm surprised at the lack of reviews of Dress Times and other knock off websites so am really happy to find this blog! Has anyone had an experience with Dress Times? And ladies above who were waiting on your dresses to arrive, any news? How are they? Thanks!

  47. I'm so glad I found this blog, but I am curious too to see more reviews with pictures posted. Us future brides-to-be can't help but be skeptical when it comes to ordering our wedding dress online and not finding many reviews- so thank you, thank you for this blog!
I want more of a simple dress for our rustic/vintage wedding here in Nashville and love the BC456 which is similar to Maggie's Miranda or Claire dress. It is an all lace dress though which makes me nervous because if its a knock off Im guessing the lace can look cheap. $250 is a HUGE difference though compared to $4500 which this simple dress can run! Ahh. But I feel like the fit and style is exactly what Im looking for. Anyway, I haven't seen anyone on here comment about a similar style dress to this... please let me know if you have purchased something similar and your experience with it! Thanks again and good luck to all!

  58. I found the perfect dress on from After Six, but with 11 bridesmaids of all different shapes and sizes there was no way was going to be able to talk them into buying an expensive dress that they would then have to extensively alter. I was so set on the dress that I began researching companies that recreate designer dresses. I found and used http://www.inweddingdress.com. My dress is not pictured on the website but all I had to do was send in a picture and I was set. They made a few changes to the dress that I ended up liking better than the original. I was immensely pleased with their willingness to help and customer service. I got my dresses faster than I had ever imagined. The only problem I had was that the belt design was faulty. I contacted http://www.inweddingdress.com immediately and they had 11 brand new belts in the mail in two days. I am so pleased. As long as you are willing to have the dress be very similar to the original and not an exact copy then I would highly recommend this site.

  59. Hey! I have been in LOVE with a dress made by Allure but the cheapest I found it was about $1200! Until I was on inweddigdress.com tonight! http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-bc380.html Of course I'm very nervous about the quality since it's selling for alomst $1000 less. I'm a little hopful after reading some of these posts. Are there any photos that you ladies can share? I would love to see the type of quality they produce. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. Hi Everyone!!!!
So excited! I have debated on ordering a dress from inweddingdress.com; however I order knowing the risk involved! I am extremely happy with my purchase and wouldn't do it any other way!!!!

I ordered my dress and in less than 3 weeks it was on my door step! It also fit perfectly!!!! I need to get a hem once I have decided on a shoe (that's it). Even my seamstress who measured me for the size on the order form was impressed how NOTHING needed to be adjusted.

Word of advice.......order your dream dress from the website!

    Happy Shopping Ladies :)

  61. I ordered 2 dresses (they were so cheap and had so many that were perfect for a destination wedding) One was from Helenebridal. It took about 6 weeks to get. It was not exactly like the picture and the quality was ok, but I still liked it. The size seemed to run a bit small as well. The second dress I ordered was from inweddingdress I LOVE IT! It took less than 2 weeks to get, was exactly like the picture and the custom size was perfect. They also changed the chapel train to a sweep train for only $10. I would highly recommend ordering from this site. Dress was $210

  62. Hi Ladies! I am considering using inweddingdress.com and thank you all so much for your posts. I just can't spend 1300$ for the Maggie Sottero Petra style I love so much. I do have a couple of questions. I emailed them this morning, but how long does it usually take to get a response (I am under a crunch as my wedding date is May 14th)? Do you know if they are able to use the same Dupion Silk as the original? Is it fairly easy to send them the pictures from the Sottero website as a guide if I didn't see that style on theirs? If I am starting with a personal trainer Feb 1 and will probably go down a size or so, would you suggest ordering the size I tried on in the store or giving them my measurements? Thanks in advance for the help all!

  63. Hello Holly! I didn't end up ordering my dress from dress times, but I used another website, Lily's Online Bridal, to order a knock off of my dream $7000 gown for a great $800. I just ordered two weeks ago so I've got about 8 weeks wait to go, but as soon as I get it I will post pictures. I ended up not wanting to order from inweddingdress.com because they didn't respond very well to my questions and the changes I wanted to make. Lily's didn't have the dress I wanted on their website but I sent them loads of pictures and they were very responsive about getting me exactly what I want and came back to me several times with questions to clarify before they even sent me the invoice. I really can't fault them at all so far, I just hope the dress is as beautiful as I hope it is!

As for ordering a smaller size, I debated about this loads but eventually my grandma, who is a seamstress, convinced me that dresses are a cinch to take in if you do lose weight but an absolute disaster if you don't so I went ahead and (reluctantly) gave them my current measurements. I decided that it would be better because while I'm sure I will lose some weight I don't know how much and I'd really like to just be able to lose and continue planning without stressing about the dress not fitting! Good luck!

  67. Hi All- I ended up ordering my wedding dress from dresstimes.com. That was last week. They have promptly returned all my emails, been very helpful, and very nice. The only reason I went with them over inweddingdress was that they were willing to make the Maggie Sottero out of Dupion silk like the original while inweddingdress wanted to do it in satin. I was also able to get it in a dark champagne. I will definitely keep you all posted on the dress. I should get it in about three weeks. I know someone made the comment that it is fishy that noone has posted pics, but if they are anything like me, I'm not sure how to post to this blog. If someone could tell me how to do it, I would be happy to.

  72. My mom and I have been searching for her dress since the the day she got engaged last year. We have a very, very small and my mom didn't want anything so bridal, which is the whole reason we decided to go online for her dress.
We ordered the BC012 dress from inweddingdress.com
After receiving the "dress" yesterday, we could not be more dissipointed.
There are so many problem's with the dress, if we took it to a tailor as they suggested we do upon being told about the problems, then the tailor would have to start all over from scratch with this dress.
They have been reported to the BBB and actions are being take to get our money back. I HIGHLY recommend not ordering from this site.

  73. Hi Ladies,

I have found my dream dress by Ella Bridals and have tried it on at one of the authorized dealers. I am seriously considering purchasing the dress from inweddingdress but I am very confused right now. I have seen good reviews and some bad ones. Any suggestions for me to help with my decision? I want the dress to look exactly like the original, has anyone requested that as well and the dress whole true to the original? I truly appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

  74. I just ordered my dress from inweddingdress.com and it should ship out on the 9th of march. I'm getting married on july 4th. I'm soo nervous because I am a plus size bride and finding a dress in general SUCKS! But I tired on a few to get an idea of what I wanted. I fell in love with a dress but didn't have 1000 to spend so I found an even better dress on the site. I hope its a pretty as it looks. If not i'll probably have to change my wedding date.

  75. This is such a helpful thread! I ordered a Jaquelin Exclusive gown from ideeli.com (a very popular and reputable flash sale website) a month ago, and I found out today, that the dress I fell in love with is not available. ='( To make up for it, they are compensating me with $15 credit. In my opinion, it's barely enough to mend my broken heart. Now, with just 3 months to go before my wedding, I am forced to search for another dream gown. Like most (if not all) women involved in this thread, I just want to look stunning on my wedding day without having to shell out more than a thousand dollars on a dress I will only wear once. Therefore, I have no qualms about wearing a knock-off, although the quality of the knock-off is a BIG concern. I've looked at the websites of both DressTimes and InWeddingDress, but I am having such a difficult time deciding on which website to order from.

If anyone would like to make a recommendation, it would be greatly appreciated.

You are only making your website look dodgy. i have taken a chance and ordered from inweddingdress.com being on a tight budget myself. Being in the fashion business myself I think I have real expectations ie colours varying from roll to roll etc. Dodgy stitching but trust me when I say I will leave a true review unbiased review wish me luck (you live and learn) Wendy

  83. Ladies- DO NOT ORDER YOUR DRESS FROM DRESSTIMES!!!!! I got mine Friday and it was the biggest, most expensive mistake I have EVER made!!!! Below is the copy and pasted email I just sent them. Not to mention I ordered the dress in champagne and IT IS GOLD!!!!!

"I just received my dress from Dresstimes and I had to write because I could not be more disappointed! I don't think anyone looked at the dress before it was sent to me. There was so much crinolin the front of the dress hung 3 inches off the floor, while the underneath was exposed and hung all the way down. There were stitches missing, frayed material, and wrinkles and pouches where the material had been cut on an improper bias. I am assuming two different bolts or dye lots were used and the color from the front of the bottom of the dress to the back is obviously different. The tightening cord for the corset was stitched in the middle and ripped apart the first time it was tightened. At first glance it resembled the original, but after closer inspection really looked nothing like it. I would be remiss if I didn't write to tell you what this means to me. That was my dream dress and now my dream is ruined! Even if I could now afford to purchase the original after paying you 450$ the company is not even shipping dresses again until the first week in July. My wedding is May 14th! I am so very sad that I put my trust in your company for my special day."

  93. I purchased my wedding dress Maggie Sottero Reese from Dresstimes.I got it in plenty of time for the wedding and I loved it! The beading was slightly different, but it was much better quality and material than the actually Maggie that I tried on in the store. I had several friends also get this dress, and they spent the big bucks to get the real one. Theirs have ripped and still do no look as good as mine. I wish I was getting married again as I would buy another wedding dress from dresstimes.com anytime. I highly recommend it! I had lots of communication with my seamstress and I got it sooner than it was promised to me!

It is very very pretty and little loose around the bust but only a little. I kept it on for about half an hour looking at myself in the mirror because it is so nice. I would have to recommend this website as being 8/10.
I ordered it on 23rd of feb. It was shipped from China on 14th mar and I picked it up from the London city depot tonight 17 mar so delivery was super quick and I didnt have to pay any customs charges! I will post pictures over the weekend.

  100. Do not order from DRESSTIMES!!! It is a complete scam! I ordered my bridesmaid dress from them, and when it arrived, it looked nothing like the one I had ordered! When I emailed them, they asked me to send a picture, which I did, and they had the nerve to tell me that it wasn’t the dress they sent! Instead of a refund per the policy on their website, they offered only to let me keep the dress and refund $20. My sister also ordered from them with the same experience! Warning: do not order from them!

  106. I ordered my dress from inwedding dress and I must say that I am very happy with my dress it looks just like the one I tried on in the bridal shop. I ordered it about a month ago so it came a lot sooner than I was expecting. I did the customized sizing and ordered it bigger than needed just in case and I'm glad I did. It only needs to be taken in about 4 to 6 inches. If your not picky and don't mind a cheaper kind of fabric being used I would recommend this site to anyone who is looking for wedding dress and doesn't want to pay a ton of money.

  107. I ordered style BC 207, and I'm so nervous about how it will turn out. It's a beautiful dress, but if the material turns out stiff or cheap, I'll have to complain to inweddingdress.com. Will post pictures when it finally arrives!

  108. Do not order anything from Inweddingdress.com!! I ordered a Mother of the Bride dress, custom sized, with measurements take by a professional tailor according to the web site's video. The dress arrived and it was HORRID to say the least! It did not fit, the fabric was of cheap quality, it was too short, and basically a peice of garbage. Now, after several e-mails asking for a refund, they won't make it right, they won't refund my money and now they won't answer my e-mails! I am out $160 and I have had to purchase another dress at a cost of $250! This company cost me $410 total and alot of emotional upheaval! Ladies save your money! This company is in China and not in America as you are led to believe! Don't be cheated like I was! At least I could buy another dress here in town, but just imagine if it had been a wedding gown!! Spend all that money and end up with some horrid piece of trash on your wedding day!!

  110. DO NOT BUY from inweddingdress.com. i just received my wedding dress and 2 bridesmaid dresses. i ordered my wedding dress in light ivory and they put bright white floral appliques on it. the structure of the dress is ok. i have to get it altered and have all the appliques redone. i also ordered 2 bridesmaid dresses. i ordered 1 color and received 2 totally different colors. they said it was because they were in 2 different materials...still...the colors didn't resemble what i thought i ordered at all and they should have never even mailed it after they saw what they were putting in the bag. all they have offered is a coupon to reorder one of the dresses in the same material. they are also ignoring other emails i have submitted to them. i also requested straps on one of the dresses and they never added them. i'm disappointed and now have to spend more money to get it fixed and buy new bridesmaid dresses. if you like to gamble then go for it...but don't expect much.

  111. Hey Everyone, I ordered a dress today from inweddingdress I'm getting really nervous after reading everyone's reviews. I'm concerned about the return policy and the quality of the dress. I'm on a very tight budget. Does anyone have any soothing information about this dress http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-bc186.html.... it's the knock off of Alfred Angelo. My wedding is in July 2012. I live very far away from both family and friends, but I hope the dress comes by June 2011 as my family and friends will be here. I want to show them!

  112. WARNING TO ALL FUTURE BRIDES: do NOT buy your dresses from "inweddingdress.com" I was totally fooled by their easy website, what seemed like the same exact dress I saw in a store for three times the price.. but you get what you pay for! The dress I ordered was definitely NOT the beautiful one I tried on in the store and wasn't even what they advertised (e.g., it didn't have two layers, as they said it would - just one, very stiff/awkward looking one). I took my dress to a real tailor and she said the dress was not "finished" (the lace was falling off in places). I ended up going w/ another dress (at a wedding dress consignment store which I love - "I do, I do" in Maryland) and hope I can sell my dress...

  113. Do not order from inweddingdress.com. They were so easy to work with AT FIRST. Responded quickly via email to questions and concerns regarding my order. I ordered one dress as a wedding dress in WHITE for a beach wedding. One dress for a bridesmaid. My wedding dress just arrived in IVORY. My wedding is one month away - all other colors have been chosen using WHITE. I have emailed them twice asking IF the error could be fixed in time - and of course, they have not responded to my email. Looks like I will either need to buy myself a new dress or change the other colors.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I finally received an email from inweddingdress.com. (See my post on April 27). "Jenny" offered a $50 coupon and free express shipping if I wanted to place an order for a new dress and this time state "bleach white" instead of white. They will not refund money on my first dress though it was made in IVORY - as "Jenny" stated in her email, the dress was made in "conventional white". This means that I would end up paying over $400 for my wedding dress since I can not return the first dress.

Let me be perfectly clear, the color of the dress is IVORY - not light ivory - not white - not "conventional white". Unless in China "conventional white" is ivory. The color choices when I placed my order was "white, light ivory and ivory"... among other custom colors.

One month from now on my wedding day will my wedding be ruined because my wedding dress is not the color I ordered and paid for? No. However, if I wanted to pay $400+ for a wedding dress, I would have have bought an "authentic" dress in the US not from China.

  115. I have read most of these reviews and one thing I am seeing is a lot of hopes the dress comes correctly but not many comments after the dress arrives. I own a website where I collect stories about buying direclty from China. Most of the designer pictures you see on the Chinese sites are actually stolen from the designers. This is illegal and I am working on an article where the gown was actually siezed by US officials. We also have a testimony of a buyer who had their debit card hit for $1400 extra unrecoverable dollars. The newest tactic is lower prices but only delivering some of the dresses. The nearest we can determine is 1 out of 10 orders. Kind of like a lottery. We believe that many of the testimonials are fake. The issues with no dress being delivered is escalated. If you only have a couple hundred dollars to spend it might serve you better to look to second hand stores and websites. Please follow our blog and we will keep you up to date. Once your money goes out of the U.S. it is likely gone. Even PayPal is not helping.

  120. I just received my dress from inweddingdress.com on the 6th of may. It is an absolutely gorgeous dress. I ordered it in a standard size 8, style DE146. http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-de146.html . The material looks great and the craftsmanship is great. However, DO NOT order an empire-waisted dress from this site. I had my waist measurement at 28 1/2. However, they put the 28 1/2 on the empire waist, just below the bust. I do not measure 28 1/2 below my bust. As far as I know, NOBODY measures 28 1/2 below the bust. I tried to contact the site by phone and only reached a go-between who said I must do all complaints by email. By email, "jenny" insisted that this is a dress with a natural waistline, not an empire waistline. She said there must have been something wrong with my measurements. If I could get the waistline of this dress to actually go down to the smallest part of my waist, it would fit! The waistline is sitting up on the ribcage, so it does not fit! Can you all please look at this picture and tell me that that waistline sitting just below her bust is not an empire waist? She ended up offering me 1/2 the price of the dress to return it (+shipping) and $20 off to re-order the dress. That does not even cover the rush shipping I would need to get the dress on time for my wedding day now. She responds to no other emails. All I wanted was an even exchange Honestly, what they did to me is ridiculous.
Order from this site with caution. They really do not care about their reputation or if they cause you grievances with their mistakes. Be prepared to pay almost double what you would have if they send you the wrong dress the first time because it is impossible to get a full return from this site (they charge a $100 restocking fee.) You put a lot of time, effort, and money in planning your wedding, and you only get one dress. After dealing with inweddingdress.com I would say only risk it if you have no other choice, and try to make sure that you REALLY ARE going to get exactly what you think you're going to get. Also, do increase the length on your dresses..i've heard other people say it too and at 5'8" this dress was about 1 1/2" short as well.

  121. I ordered a dress from www.flashbridal.com not really thinking or doing too much research. I just knew I liked this Vera Wang dress. They kept pushing the deadline back and it was finally finished at the end of April instead of early March! I happened to be going to Shanghai, so I decided to visit the factory shop. Jarvis was so nice and friendly and seemed genuine, but I really didn't like the dress. It was pretty close to looking like the Vera Wang version, but the top didn't have underwire corset shape, the edging of the organza was too refined, but worst of all, it was too small. That was my fault and I was honest with him about it, so he only charged me an extra $30 to fix the entire bodice. I also ordered it in white and should've ordered ivory. I'll let you know when I receive it in another month if it was fixed properly. Great service and good quality though.

  122. this is a GREAT blog! i already bought my dress, but if i would have seen this subject before, it may have really helped. I saw my dress online for much cheaper than what i bought it for and almost flipped until i realized it was a knock off site. I am paying for my own wedding, and trying to cut cost where ever i can. I ended up buying Maggie Sottero J1309 - Desirea.
LOVE IT BTW! but i am trying to save money too, and i am the type of person that would have probably tried a knock off dress if i had seen this blog before. My dress is more simple in shape, so it probably would have been a good one to try. Good job on this, and great job on the detailed pictures. I do have to say though...i am really glad that i ended up getting the real one, now hearing that bridalbudget thought that the fabric and waist felt better in the real maggie. Those are two of the reasons that i fell in love with mine. Good Luck Ladies. Sounds worth it to save the money if it is not too intricate, but budgetbridal's turned out pretty decent from her pics. I would still be apprehensive about going through knock off places if the style is more intricate, based on the reviews, and pictures people have posted.

  123. I do research on these knock off sites and actually ordered a gown from DHgate about 10 weeks ago. My gown alledgedly shipped the 4th of April and still not here. The tracking number phoney, I got a response on my first inquiry but the rest of my inquiries have gone un answered. I put in a complaint to DHgate and they have not responded and it has been 3 weeks. I started a dispute with Pay Pal about a week ago and have not received a response from them either. I am a bridal retailer in the U.S. and have interviewed many girls who had night mare experiences and most didn't even get a dress after they paid their money. One had her dad's debit card hit for $1400 before the bank froze the account. Money sent overseas and is unrecoverable. She never got her dress. I see the sad results as the victims of the Chinese scams as they are desperately shopping for a gown at the last minute.

  124. I just received my wedding dress which is actually a Mother of the Bride dress it is beautiful and just needed a small alteration at the shoulders. The alterations woman was amazed at how beautifully it fit! I have to say I had it made to order with the sizing and they found a error I made with the length. I received a couple of emails confirming sizing and my order was shipped in excellent time. I appreciate how they handled and I would order for them another time. I think this is a site that is way above board!

  125. First I sent in my size. I recieved an email that they needed my measurements. So I then watched the video on how to take the measurements. With help from a friend we took the measurements and sent it in. When the dress came in, it fit perfect except for the bust which was 4 inches to big. My son is getting married in less than 3 weeks so I asked for a refund. They said since I sent in my measurements, they could not refund because it was considered "special order." I course I reminded them of the first email with my size which they ignored. I am now on my 8th email still trying to get my money back. I even had to take pictures of me in the dress, my measuring tape measuring me, the tape measureing the dress. They simply counld not give me my money back. Please don't order from this sight!

  128. Does anyone have any feedback about lace details from inweddings.com? I desperately love this dress: http://www.inweddingdress.com/style-de221.html but cannot find it anywhere else. I read a previous post about not ordering an empire waist, which this dress is. I feel as though if I order it slightly too big (including the bust/empire waist) that there would be more room for alterations. Thoughts?

  131. I could not decide between two dresses from Inweddingdress.com so ordered the pair as they were such a good deal. I was happy to keep both dresses and sell one on on ebay as the return notification was quite tight but I was accepting of this. They exceed my expectations with the delivery and I received them well within the month stated from ordering. When I did come to try them on one fit and looked lovely – I am wearing this on my wedding day with an additional fitting. Unfortunately, the other was not so good. I had ordered both dresses in standard sizes but the second was tailored and where the ruching (not sure of spelling) had been taken in they had brought in too much so it was effectively twisted and the dress did not fit! After several attempts to obtain a refund they replied that they would give me $50 off the website - hardly worth it. I can't believe that if the dress is faulty they will not provide a refund or replacement as I was happy to sell the second on. I would not recommend purchasing from here purely on the service it was lucky that the one dress was acceptable but 50/50 odds are not great for your big day!

I want to order this dress, gorgeous, for a wedding. http://www.lovelypromdress.com/shop/MotheroftheBrideDresses/Cheap-prom-dress-gown-Exclusive-A-Line-Strapless-Floor-length-Mother-Of-The-Bride-Dresses--TYLE--40043-10592.html

I have never ordered online before... I'm a bit nervous.

Is anyone able to post images on this blog? or links to images?

    ReplyDelete
  133. The reason I think, that you believe they are all the same company is that these knockoff sites steal copyright images that are property paid for and owned by the original designer. They represent that they are making that dress when in reality they have never seen the dress in person. There are posts saying that people got decent dresses but do realize that the dress you will receive will not be the dress in the picture. I ordered a dress from a knock off site and never got my dress and finally after 6 months I got my money from Paypal. I had to follow up several times for the refund.

You might be better off buying from a store so that they can take care of any problems you encounter.

I also have seen reports where the knock off site has charged more than agreed and the credit card company would not help because the money was sent out of country.

  137. Ive heard mostly good reviews about dressilyme.com... has anyone dealt with them?

    ReplyDelete
  138. The pictures on this site are stolen, copyright images from the original designer. I have studied and followed the Chinese knock off trade for a long time. The positive reviews are mostly fabricated which is against the law in the US but since they are not state side it goes unchecked. Your gown will arrive in a shoe box sized package and will bear little resemblence to the original gown. Buy at your own risk.

Once your gown arrives, if it does, you will need to find someone to alter and press your dress. Most reputable professionals will not touch replica dresses or will charge you more and usual.

Often, your money will disappear but you will receive no dress. We used paypal for a test purchase in March and received no dress and it took us 6 months of vigorous effort to get our money back from PayPal.

    Buyer Beware!

  139. I ordered the wedding dress from Tiffany Bridals (online company based in China) on May 1st and prior to paying through PAYPAL, I was reassured that the dress would be delivered to me within 30 days. It did not arrive until the 15th June, which is 45 days later. Upon arrival, the dress was terrible and SIGNIFICANTLY NOT AS DESCRIBED for the following reasons: 1)It was not a Pronovias wedding dress as advertised, it was a terrible fake imitation 2) the fabric was cheap and disgusting - despite them reassuring me that it was top quality fabric 3)It was not made to the measurements I provided, it was too large in the bust and about a foot too long 4) I needed it in a timely fashion due to it being for MY WEDDING. I contacted Tiffany Bridal and initiated a return process. Tiffany Bridals claim to have an unmatched online return policy which I followed exactly. I posted the dress back for a full refund on the 15th of June and I have printed proof from Australia Post that Tiffany Bridals recieved the item on June 23rd. I am yet to recieve any refund and Tiffany Bridal are no longer returning my emails, despite me emailing them about 30 times/day. I have EVERY email from the ordering of the dress to the emails reassuring me that my refund would be processed immediately upon receipt of the dress. I am now out of pocket the full price of the dress $312.80 USD + the return postage price of $49.45 AUD ($51.52 USD).
I WOULD RECOMMEND AVOIDING THEM AT ALL COSTS!! NOTHING BUT DODGY SCAMMERS WHO MAKE AN INFERIOR PRODUCT.

i am currently obbessed about finding out about Lilys online bridal - and saw that you had ordered a dress from them earlier this year.

I am just wondering how it turned out?

    Thanks!

  142. Hey Rebecca! I did not order from Lily's, but I did order from Dresstimes. IT IS A SCAM!!! Honestly, I would not buy a wedding dress from any website, AT ALL! I spent 450$ on a dress that could never be used! The workmanship, color, everything was terrible. Luckily, I had one on lay-a-way here in case it didn't work out and it didn't. I ended up spending 560$ on the one I wore (which ended up being perfect!). With that I could have bought the original Maggie Soretto I tried to go cheap on. Rebecca, I was married in May and my advice would be to NEVER buy a dress you can't try on or even touch! I hope this helps.

  143. Hello All,

I just wanted to say that I don't really know about all the dresses you guys are wanting to order, but last year when I was going to get married in the mountains (which was cancelled by the way), I didn't have a lot of money so I ordered a knock off Maggie Sottero destination gown from Inweddingdress.com. The only thing I would complain about is that there was a delay in getting the dress because of some Chinese holiday, and the packaging was a big regular manilla packaging envelope with bubble wrap around the dress. Otherwise, the actual dress was stunning!! I had to use one of my daughters old ballet costume bags to hang it in because it didn't come with anything. I was very pleasantly surprised. We are planning to get married this year again, and I'm really thinking about ordering another dress that is a knock of Alfred Angelo that I LOVE!!! I figure, new start, new dress. My wedding is in March, I plan to order the dress in the next couple of months, so we'll see what happens. Otherwise, if you're a person that is not too terribly picky and you don't have much money, I don't see the problem with paying less for something that may not be totally perfect, but in comparison is just as beautiful. I don't know about any of the other sites, but I have no problem order from Inweddingdress.com because I've done it before. Hope this helps a little. Congratulations to all of you new brides-to-be and best of luck!

  145. If you want a white dress and really understand that the pictures of the dresses you are considering are stolen property, highly professional images of much more expensive gowns, then you really could go to a local bridal store or even a big box store like Davids Bridal where you will find legitimate dresses for about the same price as what you are lamenting over here.

I import wedding gowns from legitimate factories and my landed cost is about double the price that Chinese knock off sites are selling for. Also be aware that groups are lobbying for US government to better police this knock off practice because of the literal cheating and stealing of hard earned money from naive consumers. Because these sites are using copyright images and intellectual property we are hearing of incidents when incoming packages are being intercepted. Is it really worth the risk when you really can find wedding gowns locally for about the same price and you incur no risk?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thanks for your encouragement! I have ordered my dress and I am eagerly awaiting its arrival. The reason I brought a dress onlne is because the dress I spent over $1000 from a bridal store is a complete disaster. I tried on a dress and had one made to the closest size of my measurements. I got it posted to where I live, as I live in outback Australia and theres only one store here. Well the dress is at least 2 sizes too big and I look terrible! It looks completely different from the dress that I ordered - and I have such a bad taste in my mouth from the experience that even though its a stunning dress and everyone loves it - I just cannot wear it down the isle. Another one of my friends also ordered a Maggie Sorento gown - in a bridal store - and it was a complete disaster and a very stressfull and expensive exercise to get it fitting and looking right - so just because you because you buy a dress instore - the one you try on may look great - but it may also look very different compared to the finished result you recieve!

    ReplyDelete
  147. Hi Rebecca, I have read your entire post and am thinking that the store that you bought your gown from must be selling knock off's also. I have a bridal shop and have sold Maggie Sottero for years. Not once have I received a special order that was not identical to the original gown. Two sizes too big is a 1/2" seam down both sides. Any competent bridal seamstress would be able to take care of this in her sleep with one hand tied behind her back.

We are in the U.S. and the online offerings of designer copies is a gamble at best. About one in ten girls actually get her dress and the ones who do actually get a dress receive a shoe box size package with a dress that barely resembles the picture ordered off of.

If you do your homework and make sure that you are getting a genuine designer gown the chances for a "disaster" are minimized because authorized Maggie Sottero retailers are required to be professional.

Good luck on your gown order and please let us know how it turns out.

  150. Laura, it's a crap shoot and some are happy but most are not. The pictures that you see on the site you listed are professional photography of the designer dresses that this website has stolen and put on their own. These are not pictures of the actual dress that you would receive. In fact, the Chinese knock off site such as this has never seen the dress in person. A real factory would never sell to a designer and then go behind their back to sell to the public. If they would steal copyrighted material and represent it as their own do you really think they could be trustworthy. I ordered a dress from dhgate.com last year and never got my dress. I paid through paypal and it took me 6 months and numerous inquiries to finally get my money back.

I found my dream dress in my city but it costs me a bit too much.
And this online shop I found at http://princessbigday.com says they can make it only at 14% of the price of the original dress!

Has anyone heard of this online shop? Should I hold back?

  153. Laura,
I went through DHGate and bought 2 dresses. I had found "MY" dress and they had the picture that was from the model that you would see in the magazines. DON"T DO IT! Both dresses were poor quality and not what is pictured. They use the pictures and send you cheap imitations.
Even with their no hassle money back claim - i was never able to get a refund. Even the veils I bought were horrible. I could've had a kindergartner make them look nicer. Save yourself the money and go find a dress you can try on and a bridal shop you can hold accountable in the USA!

  155. @ Samantha and KT. Both of the links you posted are Chinese Knock off Sites offering Fake Copies. The old saying "If something seems too good to be true it probably is." really applies here. These people steal copyrighted images of designer gowns and promote them as what they offer you. There is no way they could make and ship you this gown for the price they charge. While I do hear every once in a while that someone gets a dress they can live with most end up buying a second dress at the last moment with money they really don't have. These Chinese knock off companies who would steal the images would not think twice about fabricating positive reviews. ABC Good Morning America recently did a piece on Fake Chinese Knock off Dresses I have included the link here.http://replicagowns.blogspot.com/2011/11/good-morning-america-report.html

  158. Hi,

I have fallen in love with Sophia Tolli's concetta dress. I went shopping around to a few local boutiqes here and after trying on about 50 dresses I found my dream dress, for double what my budget is.
I'm fine with a knock off, as long as it's the same dress (you know what I mean)
I'm super weary about ordering online, our budget is super tight and if I don't get the right dress or there are major issues I'm screwed and would have to put off the wedding. I'm not getting married until Oct. so I have lots of time, but if it's a mistake I will never order online again and depending on how fast it gets here I may not be able to order from a bridal store.
I have checked weddingdreamdress, the wedding shoppe, missfish, and have been scouring others. Any tips or recommendations, and please anyone with more pictures would be great since there are only a few I can find on the blog. Here's a link to my perfect dress: http://sophiatolli.com/item/?collection=Sophia%20Tolli%20-%20Bridal&i=Y21152

  160. I dont know where you shop but I havent found one place that sells a pretty dress I would wear in my size for under $150.00 When I do, I'll buy it. Until then, women will keep going to the knockoff places and taking the risks. There is absolutely NO reason for wedding dresses to be so expensive. Its as much scam here as it is overseas

    ReplyDelete
  161. More and more independent reports say that you will likely be buying a replacement dress if you buy directly from China. There are also US shops selling fake wedding and social occasion dresses. Most designer dresses will be priced similarly from store to store. More and more seamstresses are refusing to work on them because
it takes twice as long to make it look half as good. It is illegal to copy the property of others and represent it as your own and there is no
way a legitimate product can cost so much less. In this case you are buying the most important dress of your life. Randy Fenoli says "You can always buy a cheaper dress but in the end it will only be the price you love.". If you can't find a new dress you can afford, shop for one second hand in a shop so you know it's condition.

  162. This site is ridiculous and obviously a promo because I have not seen ONE PHOTO YET that wasn't a stock photo. I thought the point was to show yourself in the knock-off dress you ordered (from wherever) to show the quality of the dress... instead I just spent 30 minutes reading an infomercial for inweddingdress.com. Great.

    ReplyDelete
  163. "There's nothing wrong with buying a knock-off dress". The people who are selling these dresses are selling from ACTUAL pictures of the original designers and shipping something entirely different. That is fraud. The designers are having their "intellectual property" stolen along with the images of their designs. The reviews on many of these sites are not authentic; again, fraud. Many of the top designers of bridal, pageant and prom gowns are actively pursuing the people who are pirating these goods through international law. Customs can and does confiscate any shipment of pirated goods being brought into the US; many shipments get through without being discovered, but others do not.

They emailed me saying the length I put in didnt seem right and for me to re measure. I did and changed it - I shouldnt have! It would have been perfect at the length I had it!! OH NO! Im not sure how Im going to handle it except get some GREAT shoes!

  165. Oh,and I never dreamed I would order from anywhere but the good ol' US but people that cater to the "wedding group" are ridiculous. There is NO reason dresses should go for prices like this. NO reason for invitations to be this expensive. Its driven by women who, yes, want something special and and are charged out the wahzoo ( and usually 5 or more OTHER wahzoo's too) for something for ONE damn day.

    ReplyDelete
  166. it is NOT the most important dress of your life. Its a few hours on an important day. NO WAY a dress should cost more than a couple hundred dollars unless it has real antique lace on it or real jewels. what people charge for this stuff is insane and we're all idiots for putting up with it

    ReplyDelete
  167. I am wondering if you have any idea what goes into even the most simple dress. I am a third generation designer and actually make wedding dresses. I also have two factories overseas, one in China that will make anything I ask. I know what it costs to make a real wedding gown. There are costs such as taxes and duty that we pay just for the privilege of our dress crossing the US border. The only way that these Chinese websites can sell you a dress is to pay virtually nothing to innocent people much like indentured servants and use fabric that bears little resemblance to actual wedding dress fabric. I have been making a wedding gown and already have more than 30 hours into it and it is about 2/3 of the way finished. I also employ a professional designer in my store who has been changing the top of a wedding gown for a client and she has nearly 40 hours into it. Then you need to add the cost of the fabrics and notions.

If you multiply the number of hours by even minimum wage you will find that what you are buying directly from China is based on un fair trade practices where advantage is taken on people.

You can say what you want about how much things really cost but until you have spent an average of 20 hours in the process of selling and serving a bride with her $1,000 wedding dress, or you have helped a couple with wedding invitations who have absolutely no idea how to assemble the paper trousseau or anything else involved in a wedding, you might have no idea what it really costs in the grand scheme of things.

  168. I have been debating on buying from one of these websites, like most I don't have the money to buy the $2000 dress I love. I am a little nervous but on that note, I owned a bridal shop a while back and one "top, brand named" company I dealt with had most of their dresses made in China and shipped to Canada/USA. Knowing that makes me think that some of these sites may not be as scary as one thinks. And the quality of some of the dresses that I bought from this "Brand name" label were not of top quality and at times had defects, and alot of the time had needles broken off inside the dress that you had to hunt for so a customer wouldn't get poked. So my way of thinking is why spend the $1000-2000 when you can spend much less.

  176. So I thought I'd leave my experience with my wedding dress. I fell in love with an Alfred Angelo dress, priced at 2500...and, like many of you, I found it online at weddingtonway for only 350. I was SUPER hesitant...but I figured that the worse case senerio, I'm out 350 bucks. So I tried it...and it came in GORGEOUS!!! Fit beautifully!! The dress totally took my breath away. I did purchase it a little early (I received my package in February for a wedding in September.) Now the bad news... I hung it in my moms closet, and just pulled it out the other day to go get my first fitting....And it looks like the thread in two vertical lines up the center of my dress snapped, leaving little tiny black holes all the way down the front (where the stich once was)...I'm taking it in today to get sized and (hopefully) re-stiched and cleaned in those areas. I'll keep you posted on the outcome!

  177. Lynette-
People are here to get the opinions and experiences of those who have purchased. It is obviously by your NUMEROUS and redundant negative comments that you do not condone the purchase of knock-off gowns because god forbid it puts a pin in your profit margin. The reality is, people here have not asked your opinion. They are here seeking the opinions of those who have experiences to share. And, while I do have the money to spend on the designer dress, my children's college educations, our home and food on our table supercede any need to dump $2,000 into the designer gown that I wish I could wear. The term wedding has been coined by all wedding vendors as an opportunity to upcharge for something that is far less valuable. This is evident by meeting with wedding vendors. You tell a wedding vendor that you need food for an event and it's half the price as food for a "wedding." The same goes for dresses. The dress I am looking at is "simple" at best and similar dresses with similar amounts of fabric and detailing go for about 1/10 of the price in a department store but unfortunately don't come in white or ivory because they would resemble too much of a "wedding." Are dress designers and capitalizing off of the fact that American women put so much emphasis into their special day? I would say so.

  178. Nicole, thank you for your feedback. While you are entitled to your opinion what you don't realize is that I have actually been scammed by a Chinese knock off site when I ordered a gown that never arrived. They made promises. " Be patient fiend. Your dress will arrive to you soon.". My money was gone, my dress never arrived and it took me six months of continual fighting to get my money back from PayPal . Some people I know never get their money back. Some order in hopes of being able to wear their dream gown for less. You compare the cost of food to the cost of a wedding gown which is totally different. There are thousands of wedding gowns in the US market for about what you would pay for a reasonable Chinese knock off dress but you get more than just a dress at most bridal shops.

I do collect and publish information collected from real people who have been scammed, lost money and ended up spending more money for a replacement dress.

These Chinese pirates steal copyright property and represent it as their own. This is illegal on many levels. They send merchandise to consumers under the guise of a "gift" and dodge the costs that legitimate importers pay. I recently discovered that when one goes to Sears.com and selects wedding dresses you are redirected to a knock off site. This is also the case with many piggybacking on "legitimate " entity's to lend credibility and trust when the legitimate entity claims no liability or connection to. They are most likely receiving payment for this.

While I believe it is important to save money where we can it is also important to make an informed decision. I have been involved in every aspect of the wedding industry and am in a position to lend my expertise where and when it inappropriate.

You comment that you are looking for something similar to what you are finding in department stores only in white. As a designer and retailer I am also experienced in this area. A "simple" white dress like what you see in department stores is not usually available through a full service bridal shop and if it is the price is higher for many reasons. White and ivory fabrics are much more see through than a darker color of the exact same fabric so it must have additional lining layers.

Also, in my bridal store we spend between 4 and 7 hours with and on behalf of a bride who buys and an average of 2 hours with a bride who only shops but doesn't buy. Even a bride who is shopping for a simple, $100 or $200 wedding dress wants the total experience. In our salon a consultant stays with her client at all times to assist finding and dressing in the perfect gown. Then there is the accessory time, ordering time, alterations time, pressing time, storage of the dress until the wedding and multiple store visits. Divide the cost of the "simple" dress you are looking for by the number of hours we spend with a bride, add to that the overhead that every brick and mortar shop has with inventory, insurance, rent, employee pay, etc.

Most shoppers will not simply find a dress online and order it without physically visiting a brick and mortar bridal shop to try on similar styles. It costs me around $10,000 every month to turn the key in my front door and when we are used as an unpaid show room for someone who actually thinks what I have bears any resemblance to the inferior dress one would receive from a Chinese knock off site it is very expensive for us indeed. Internet sellers will never survive without piggybacking off legitimate physical stores.

Just yesterday a bride in my store purchased her dream dress. A brand new tulle ball gown with a 10 layer, Yes Ten Layer skirt. The bodice was rouched silk finished french taffeta and a hand crystal beaded sash for the fabulous price of $499. Most Chinese knock off dresses come in a bubble wrap package the size of a loaf of bread. There is no way that dress could have been squished into a package ten times that size.

So, before you go accusing me of being negative when I am simply giving facts and warnings on the reality side of this unhappily ever after fairy tale, please remember that your own personal opinion based on limited experiences may not be accurate. In fact, you might be instrumental in someone losing precious, hard earned money to a thief in a distant country who's only purpose is to take advantage of naive consumers.

I do care about my customers. I take care of each and every one of them and more often than not my customers tell me that my prices are more than fair and they will refer their friends to my store at every possible opportunity.

  181. It's true, I am not seeing any pictures of the disaster dresses from the brides who have had bad experiences...can you guys post them? I think it will help see both sides of this story for those who are wary.

  182. "The award was huge---a record setting $869 million verdict as 106 different  defendants were hit with damages of $8.15 million each, and were all fined   on 4 counts of willful trademark infringement, which carries the statutory  penalty of $2 million each, and a fifth charge of copyright infringement carrying the maximum penalty of $150,000.

This will hopefully  lead to a court issuing an exclusionary order that will instruct US Customs and Border Protection seize and destroy  arriving products that infringe."

Designers and companies invest millions in product research, design, marketing, etc. and see their investments rerouted to China. Designers and US companies are getting more agressive with entities who dupe customers into buying copies of their products. This includes those who copy images and key words linking that image to the rightful owner of the product. Laws in the US are already on the books and are being more agressively enforced. US custom officials will be required to destroy counterfeit goods or collect 17% duty on the "estimated value" of the item arriving in the US. This duty applies not only to knock off items but to all items purchased abroad. It's the law.

"Chief counsel for TR Jeans, Deborah Greaves, states that , "we no longer have to chase our tails over 286 bogus web sites and we are pleased we are able to send a message to people operating on the fringes of the electronic frontier. It is important that we will not have US consumers targets of these bogus sites and being duped into buying copies".

Additionally, Louis Vuitton won a ruling from the International  Trade  Commission along similar lines yesterday, Thursday, March 28 2012"

  183. Hello ! Somebody took a look at www.bridaldreamdress.com ? In this site the dresses are more expensive than in the others. I'm in love with "Cymbeline" dresses, but the original ones costs at range 2500 Euro ( or 3500 Euro the dress that i love most ). So please, if somebody has an experience with this site, please let me know ! Thank you in advance

  184. Im almost positive that THIS SITE IS FAKE!!
    -The blogger doesnt reply anymore.
    -No pics posted.
-The positive posts are from the chinese dress sites.
-The negative posts are from other knock off sites/bridal shop owners/designers and unhappy brides who got ripped off.

I ended up on a few knock off sites in search of my dream dress. I got my hopes up high and started a search for answers.

I ended up here cus: It's not that I cant afford 1000-2000$ dress, it hurts me to spend that kind of money for a few hours of joy! So If you value a dollar, buy something you can touch, see and try on...cus otherwise you should just take a wad of cash and burn it cus its better than lining some scammers pocket.

One poster mentioned that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

If you cant afford a 2000$ dress or dont want to spend that amount of money then hit the sales rack in a reputable bridal store. (thats what im doing) http://www.davidsbridal.ca/HomeView

This link was posted in a earlier post...Take a look at what she got! OUCH! http://www.scribd.com/doc/6330030/Photo-Report3

I would be horrified if i spent 300$ to end up with that mess... Run, RUN and when you think your done RUUUNNN some more.

Happy Dress Hunting my fellow brides to be. May your SPECIAL day be filled with love and joy!!

  190. Most wedding gowns are made in China however, that doesn't mean anything except labor is cheaper and for the time being the exchange rate is in our favor. The factories and designers have a relationship and wouldn't make crap because they want ongoing orders. When you order a knock off you mean less than nothing to them. Once they have your money there is no incentive to deliver. Also, as a designer when I look at the few photos being posted of knock offs I am seeing less than acceptable fabrications and workmanship. What one person would tolerate a more experienced person would not.

  191. I ordered my dress from www.inweddingdress.com and its taking waaay longer to arrive from the date they gave me. I asked them for a phone number or an address since their online chat is always saying leave a msg since nobody is online to help. I always email them and when I ask for info on their address or number they never reply. They said my dress should be shipped out this week and I emailed and still no reply. Seriously if my dress is not what was expected I will file a case against them. I'll gladly post pics of myself in the dress for all of you "WHEN" it finally gets here.

  194. www.annaprom.com is the worst company to deal with! They sent us 5 dresses poorly made crooked hems etc.but more importantly in the completely wrong color. They don't even have the color they sent us on their color chart. When asked about the color they told us it is a prettier color then the one we chose and that it will be better for our wedding then the color we wanted!! They also told us that the "designers" chose that specific color for the dresses and then they wouldn't even let us return the dresses they gave us two options 1. send the dresses back and they will make us new ones in a color of our choosing (which I thought is what we did in the first place) but we would have to pay for shipping or 2.keep the dresses and they would refund us $150.00 total dollars out of the $700.00 we paid them. We opted for the $150.00 refund which we still have not received (it's been 3 weeks). PLEASE, DO NOT BUY FROM annaprom.com!!!!

  195. Ladies I am older and renewing my vows, I am wearing a gown as I didn't the first time. I recommend "dresspayless". I ordered my dress from them and it was pretty detailed ie. A lot of lace and bead work. I ordered a standard size, figured I'd have it altered at home. It only took two weeks for my dress to arrive. I gasped when I took it out, not realizing it was inside out. My mom and I unfolded it together. The dress is gorgeous, drop dead gorgeous! The reading is beautiful, the lace is beautiful. My mom has sewn all her life and said it was well made and she was even impressed with how well the zipper was put in. It was big, but I had ordered it that for alterations sake. The sales girl " Lucy" sent me an email at least every other day on the progress of my dress, then a note after about mt satisfaction. The selection is fantastic too. I have changed my plans around so I'm actually going to get a new dress and I'm ordering from dresspayless again. My daughter will get her maid of honor gown there too. Just thought I'd let everyone know it's not all bad to save some money and there is an honest company out there.
    Happy Weddings!!

  197. I am assisting Nicole from Inside Edition, yes, this is the big TV show from Mnew York, on a segment relating to Chinese knock off dresses. She is looking for a bride who purchased a knockoff gown. A Maggie Sottero copy would be preferable. I know that several of you have been really disappointed and here is your chance to help keep others from making the same mistake. Please call her directly right away. It is important that you still have the dress . 602-309-9986
